Well, we had a blast at Monster Cross 2019!  It had everything that we like; ace trails, good weather (for February), close racing, beer hand-ups, cowbells & plenty of heckling.  The feedback has been great so expect to see Monster Cross return to Delamere for the 4th edition in 2020.

Until we can get dates (& maybe news of new events) confirmed, spend some time fondly reliving this year's race through looking at numbers on the RESULTS & gazing at some images capturing the beating heart of Monster Cross 2019.  More photos can be viewed HERE.

MONSTER CROSS - Like Cross But More Cross

We love cross.  Cross is awesome.  But sometimes we’re left wanting more, feeling like it’s over all too soon.  That’s where Monster Cross comes in – it’s like cross, but more cross.  Awesome like cyclocross but with more awesomeness; 3 hours long and featuring more course, with more singletrack, more run ups, more hurdles and more cowbells.

For the third edition of Monster Cross we have up'd sticks and moved to a new venue at the much heralded Delamere Forest.  The new course is a belter, we're genuinely excited to be putting the event on here.

Please read on to learn more about the race, the new course and the venue.  All in all this is gearing up to be the MOST CROSS MONSTER CROSS to date!

The course at Monster Cross is longer than that of a normal cx race at approximately 6km in length & will have plenty of interesting features to keep you wanting to go out for another lap.  The race starts at 10am, simply complete as many laps as possible in 3hrs.

Race categories are open to solo riders and pairs. Open to all riders over 16 years of age.

Solo riders - See if you can strike the balance of intensity & endurance to complete as many laps as possible before the bell rings to call in the final lap.

Entry fee £25 per rider.

Pairs - Sprint, change, sprint, change, repeat. Pairs can handover every lap to race as fast as humanly possible over the entire duration. Every lap can be approached like the opening lap of a normal cx race. Can you taste the blood in your mouth already?!?

Entry fee is £40 per pair.

Hold your horses!  We haven't even confirmed the 2020 date just yet.  Keep an eye on here & the Facebook page for news updates.

Monster Cross is being held at Whitefield, Delamere Forest, WA6 8LH.  The event car park is off the B5152 on the opposite side of the road to the main Delamere Forest visitors centre.  There is ample parking all on hard standing and parking is included in your entry (£3 for spectators).

This course is all kinds of ace.  Thanks to the input of local cycling kingpin and international heart-throb, The Loam Ranger himself, Rick Minshull of Twelve50 bikes we have a suitably awesome course.  You can view & download the route HERE.

There's a great mix of super fast fireroad track, swoopy singletrack, steep banks and nice cx-techy descents to play with.  Each singletrack section is separated with a good open stretch of fireroad so there's plenty of passing opportunities and this mix of terrain means that the course should be good in pretty much whatever weather turns up in mid-February!

Further details of the format, rules and event site can be found here.

The course is being designed so that it will favour cross bikes and as a CX race our preference would be that you compete on a cross bike but if you don't have one you're still more than welcome to come and race on an mtb, gravelbike, whatever really (so long as it's up to being raced off-road and is not an e-bike, or a tandem).

The official MONSTER CROSS hoodie is available in limited quantities for a very reasonable £25.00 inc p&p.  It's a rather dashing item of clothing in the shape of a lightweight hoodie in a colour some might call 'Fuchsia'.  Make sure you buy one of them.  Or maybe buy two and keep one aside to take along to the Antiques Roadshow in 2042.

Our Supporters

Monster Cross has been made possible with the help and support of our lovely partners.  Please take a few moments to go and take a look at the amzingly good things that they do.  Enjoy them.  Buy things from them.  Thanks.

Twelve50 Bikes, Frodsham

The home of bike riding badgers, quality tea, tailwhip tutorials and a whole lot of knowledge & experience.

These guys know their onions.  And when we say onions we actually mean bikes.

Cracking service is guaranteed from the guys whether you're looking for a first bike or a race winning weapon.

Sandiway Ales

Sandiway Ales are an excellent micro-brewery based just a couple of miles up the road from Delamere Forest in Blakemere.  On site you'll find their real ale brewery, shop & pub, perfect to call in to post ride.  On top of that the guys offer brewery tours, home cask ale, beer making and more!

Sandiway Ales will be present at Monster Cross with a fully functioning bar selling bottled beers and drinks off the pump for you to sample during the race if you feel you need a break from racing!  Make sure you check out Sandiway Ales' 'Trail Meets The Ale' range of bike inspired brews!

Delamere Forest Forestry Commission

The guys at the Forestry Commission at Delamere have been brilliant, working with us to bring an event like Monster Cross to the forest.

Delamere is a brilliant multi-use forest and it's their management of the place that means there's plenty to do for walkers, cyclists, horse riders and families alike with everyone getting on well.

We hope you enjoy Monster Cross & come back again to check out what else is on offer in the forest.
